The details

Your files stay on your device

Every tool on Nozzlefox runs inside your browser. When you open a 3MF, STEP, STL, SVG or photo, your browser reads it from your disk and converts it right there, using JavaScript and WebAssembly (the OpenCascade and Manifold geometry engines) in a background thread. The file and the result are never sent to a server. We never see them, and your files aren't stored after you close the tab.

So that the tools also work offline, your browser keeps a copy of this site's own pages and code (a “service worker” cache). It never contains your files, and you can clear it in your browser's settings for this site.

This matters for CAD files and paid designs: you can convert a client's STEP file or a model you bought without handing it to anyone.

Check it yourself

  • Open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and convert a file. You'll see the page download its own code, and no upload.
  • Open one file so the tool loads its 3D engine, then switch off your internet connection. You can keep opening and converting files.

No accounts, cookies or tracking

There is no sign-up and no login. The site sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising scripts, and loads nothing from other companies' servers. Fonts and code are served from this site.

The one exception: Map to STL

The Map to STL tool can't work offline: it needs a map and elevation data of the place you choose. It loads nothing until you click Load the map. After that your browser downloads map tiles from OpenFreeMap and elevation tiles from Terrain Tiles on AWS Open Data (Amazon S3). If you type a place in the search box, the text is sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Those servers receive your IP address and which tiles or place you asked for, as with any online map. The model itself is built in your browser and nothing you make is uploaded. Only that page is allowed to contact these servers; the security policy of every other page still blocks it.

What the hosting provider sees

Like any website, the server that delivers these pages receives the usual technical request data (your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for) in order to send the page to you. It does not receive your files.

Changes

If this ever changes (for example if we add privacy-friendly visitor statistics), this page will say so before it happens. Your files will always be processed on your device.
