3D printer bed sizes (build volumes)
Published · How we check our guides
Short answer
Most desktop printers build roughly 180 to 256 mm in each direction: the Bambu Lab A1, P1S and P2S are 256 × 256 × 256 mm, the A1 mini 180 × 180 × 180 mm, the Prusa MK4S 250 × 210 × 220 mm. The table lists over 20 printers, with the longest thin part each fits on the diagonal.
Build volumes
Width × depth × height in millimetres, from each maker’s spec page (checked November 2026). “Longest on the diagonal” is the longest thin part that fits flat corner to corner, keeping 5 mm clear at each end.
| Printer | Build volume (mm) | Longest on the diagonal |
|---|---|---|
| Bambu Lab A1 mini | 180 × 180 × 180 | ≈ 244 mm |
| Bambu Lab A1 / P1S / P2S / X1C | 256 × 256 × 256 | ≈ 352 mm |
| Bambu Lab X2D (main nozzle) | 256 × 256 × 260 | ≈ 352 mm |
| Bambu Lab H2D (one nozzle) | 325 × 320 × 325 | ≈ 446 mm |
| Bambu Lab H2S | 340 × 320 × 340 | ≈ 456 mm |
| Bambu Lab H2C (left nozzle) | 325 × 320 × 320 | ≈ 446 mm |

Printers with two or more nozzles have a smaller area where both can reach. The table lists the single-nozzle volume; check the spec page before planning a part that uses both. Prusa lists the XL at 360 × 360 × 360 mm for one to five tools.
The listed size isn’t all usable
- Edge margins. Slicers keep parts a little away from the edges, and a skirt or brim needs space around the part. Plan for 5–10 mm less than the listed width and depth.
- Purge and wipe areas. Multi-colour printers use part of the plate for a purge tower or wipe area, so a full-size part leaves no room for it.
Too big for your printer?
Turn it first: a long part often fits on the diagonal or standing up. If it still doesn’t fit, the STL splitter takes these same sizes: pick your printer and it cuts the model into parts that fit, with pins so they line up when you glue them. The whole process is in my model is too big for the print bed. To check whether a model fits before printing, the resizer can also scale it to the largest size your printer allows.
Your printer isn’t listed?
The build volume is on the printer’s spec page or in its manual, often as “build volume” or “print size”. In your slicer, the printer profile shows it as the bed shape and maximum print height. The splitter and resizer work with any of the listed sizes; pick the closest one that’s not bigger than yours.
